Ultrafield vs Deepgram.
Considering Ultrafield as a Deepgram alternative? A like-for-like read on published rates, models and migration, including the cases where Deepgram is still the better pick. Figures are list pay-as-you-go pricing, verified August 2026.
Published rates, per hour of audio.
Where the price difference comes from.
A materially lower price usually means one of three things: a smaller model, a slower queue, or a discount that expires. It is worth being explicit that none of those is the mechanism here.
Our rates come from running a lean inference stack and metering per processed second rather than per seat or bundle. You also choose the engine per request, so the cost/accuracy trade is yours rather than ours: run Whisper large-v3-turbo at $0.07 per hour where latency and volume matter, or Ultrafield ASR-1 at $0.13 where you want our own model on difficult audio — still half the comparable flagship rate.
Speed is a tier, not a lottery
Cheap hosting often means waiting behind other customers. Concurrency and scheduling are explicit here instead: pay-as-you-go allows 10 concurrent batch jobs and 5 streams, Pro raises that to 50 and 25 with priority scheduling and higher token-processing throughput, and Enterprise sets custom concurrency, throughput and latency limits with dedicated hosting.
When Deepgram is the better choice.
Deepgram has been shipping speech APIs for years, with broad SDK coverage and a large free credit to evaluate against.
Their Voice Agent and Flux products ship today. Our Realtime API is on the roadmap, not generally available.
Deepgram periodically discounts streaming below list, which narrows the streaming gap. Always price against their current rate, not ours.
What each vendor runs.
Moving over, without a rewrite.
Our audio endpoints follow OpenAI conventions for routes, Bearer auth, errors and usage reporting.
Pick ASR-1 for difficult audio, Whisper large-v3-turbo for lowest latency and cost, large-v3 for accuracy.
Diarization and understanding become named processing stages on the same job, metered independently.
Send a slice of production traffic to both and compare output and cost on your own audio before you migrate anything.
Questions people actually ask.
Is Ultrafield a good Deepgram alternative?
It depends on what you are optimizing for. If cost per hour of audio is the constraint, Ultrafield is the cheaper alternative on every category both vendors publish, and you also get open-weight Whisper models rather than a single proprietary engine. If you need a generally available voice-agent product today, Deepgram is further ahead. The sections below set out both sides rather than only the flattering half.
Is Ultrafield cheaper than Deepgram?
On published list rates as at August 2026, yes across every category we both publish. Batch transcription is $0.13 per hour against Deepgram Nova-3 at $0.26, streaming is $0.19 against $0.46, and diarization is $0.06 against $0.12. Our cheapest batch model, Whisper large-v3-turbo at $0.07 per hour, is roughly a quarter of their batch rate. Deepgram runs streaming promotions that narrow the streaming gap, so compare against their current rate.
Does cheaper mean less accurate?
That is the right question to ask, and the honest answer is that you should test it on your own audio rather than take either vendor's word. Our pricing comes from running a lean inference stack and metering per processed second, not from routing you to a smaller model. You choose the engine per request, so you can also run our highest-accuracy option and still pay less than a comparable flagship elsewhere.
Can I use Whisper on Deepgram?
Deepgram serves its own Nova and Flux model families. We serve Ultrafield ASR-1 alongside open-weight Whisper large-v3 and large-v3-turbo, so you can pick an open model, keep the option to self-host later, and avoid being locked to one vendor's proprietary engine.
How hard is migrating?
Our audio endpoints follow OpenAI conventions, so if you already speak that dialect it is largely a base URL and key change plus a model name mapping. Diarization and understanding move from provider-specific flags to named processing stages. Running both in parallel on a slice of traffic is the low-risk way to evaluate.
When is Deepgram the better choice?
If you need a generally available voice-agent product today, our Realtime API is still on the roadmap. They also run periodic streaming promotions that narrow the streaming gap, so price against their current rate rather than list. And if you are deeply integrated already, the migration cost may outweigh the saving at your volume.
